RGB TV vs OLED
This became a real choice in 2026. RGB is now buyable in the US from $1,599.99.
Until recently the honest answer was "you cannot buy the RGB one". Samsung's Micro RGB range changed that, and the comparison below is now a live decision rather than a preview.
Where an RGB backlight should win
Bright rooms. The whole point of producing coloured light directly is holding colour saturation at high brightness, and that is precisely where OLED gives ground — a sunlit living room, daytime sport, HDR highlights on a large screen.
Where OLED still wins
Dark rooms, and it is not close. OLED switches off individual pixels, so black bars are black and there is no blooming around subtitles. No backlit LCD, RGB or otherwise, matches that.
The honest answer on waiting
The waiting argument has weakened considerably. RGB backlighting is on sale in the US at prices that overlap good OLEDs, so the question is no longer "wait or not" but "which of these two, for my room". A first-generation product still carries first-generation risk, and independent measurements of these panels are thin on the ground.
